We understand Gate City is a unique experience unlike a typical sports camp, and families often want to do their research before registering. This page is designed to give you a deeper look at what makes our camp special, with helpful updates, detailed articles, and in-depth information on everything from housing and daily schedules to training, staff, and the overall camper experience.

One of the biggest questions families ask about is housing—and for good reason. Sending your child to an overnight camp is a big decision. At Gate City Elite Camp, we’ve built an environment that is safe, organized, and designed to help every camper feel comfortable from check-in to checkout.
Campers stay right next door to the Mountain View Event Center at the Best Western Pocatello Inn, giving them a convenient and comfortable home base throughout the week. Rooms are arranged with three athletes per room, creating a fun, team-oriented atmosphere while still giving campers space to relax and recharge between sessions.
We also take supervision and room arrangements seriously. Male athletes room with male athletes and are supervised by male staff members. Female athletes room with female athletes and are supervised by female staff members. Our goal is to create an environment where campers feel safe, supported, and cared for throughout the entire week.
What makes the housing experience special is how connected it is to the full camp environment. This isn’t a “drop them off and see you later” type of camp. Our staff is present, engaged, and involved all week long. Campers are constantly surrounded by coaches and mentors who care about their experience both on and off the court.
Staying overnight also helps athletes build friendships, confidence, and independence in a way that typical day camps often can’t replicate. From team bonding moments to walking over to sessions with their group, the housing setup becomes part of what makes the week memorable.
For many campers, this is their first glimpse of a college-style basketball experience—and that’s exactly the point. Gate City Elite Camp is about more than basketball. It’s a complete experience built to help young athletes grow, compete, and leave with memories that last long after camp ends.

One of the most common questions families ask is, “What does a typical day look like?” The answer: every day at Gate City Elite Camp is structured, energetic, and packed with opportunities for athletes to improve, compete, and grow.
Each morning begins with wake up and breakfast at the hotel before campers head to the Mountain View Event Center ready to work. The first session of the day focuses on individual fundamental skill development—ball handling, footwork, shooting, finishing, and the details that help athletes build confidence and consistency.
After the morning court session, campers hear from a guest speaker. These sessions are designed to go beyond basketball and give athletes insight on topics like mindset, leadership, discipline, confidence, and what it takes to succeed at the next level.
Following lunch, campers return to the gym for small group skill sessions. This is where players get more personalized instruction, compete in drills, and work closely with coaches in a smaller setting that allows for detailed teaching and feedback.
Later in the afternoon, campers have time to rest and recharge before regrouping for our journal and goalsetting sessions. This part of the day is a major piece of what makes Gate City different. Athletes reflect on what they learned, set goals, and develop habits that can help them long after camp ends.
The evening brings some of the most exciting moments of the day. After dinner, campers head back to the MEC for scrimmages, live games, and competitions. This is where players apply what they’ve worked on, compete in front of coaches, and enjoy the energy of a fun, competitive environment.
Before the night wraps up, campers finish with a film session and snacks, breaking down key lessons from the day and learning the importance of studying the game. Then it’s back to the hotel for free time, room checks, and lights out before doing it all again the next day.
Every hour of the day is intentional. From skill work to competition to life lessons, Gate City Elite Camp is built to give athletes a complete experience—not just keep them busy. It’s five days of growth, challenge, and memories they’ll carry with them long after camp is over.

At Gate City Elite Camp, basketball is the vehicle—but growth goes far beyond the game. We love helping athletes improve their skills, but some of the most valuable lessons from camp happen away from the court.
Throughout the week, campers are challenged to grow in areas that impact every part of life: confidence, discipline, leadership, communication, and accountability. These are qualities that help athletes succeed in basketball, in school, and in future careers.
One of the biggest areas of growth is independence. For many campers, this is their first experience being away from home in a structured environment. They learn how to manage their time, be responsible, stay organized, and handle the small daily habits that come with maturity.
Camp also teaches athletes how to handle adversity. Not every drill will go perfectly. Not every game will be easy. There will be moments of frustration, fatigue, and challenge. Learning how to respond, stay positive, and keep working is a huge part of development.
Our journal and goalsetting sessions help campers reflect, think intentionally, and build self-awareness. Athletes learn how to set meaningful goals, evaluate progress, and create habits that can carry into the school year and future seasons.
Campers also build relationships with teammates, coaches, and other athletes from different schools and communities. They learn how to connect with others, encourage teammates, compete the right way, and be part of something bigger than themselves.
By the end of the week, campers leave with more than improved skills or a better jump shot. They leave with new confidence, stronger habits, lasting friendships, and lessons that matter far beyond basketball.
That’s what makes Gate City Elite Camp special. We’re not just developing players—we’re helping shape young people.

For many families, one of the biggest goals in youth sports is helping their child earn an opportunity to play at the next level. The path to college basketball can feel confusing, competitive, and full of unanswered questions. That’s exactly why this part of Gate City Elite Camp matters so much.
Camp Director Cam Flabel has spent the last five years recruiting at the collegiate level and helping build successful college rosters. Through his work in college basketball, he has evaluated hundreds of prospects, built strong recruiting classes, and helped bring players from places like Idaho and Utah to compete at Hawai‘i Pacific University. He also has relationships with coaches across multiple levels of college basketball, giving families real insight into today’s recruiting landscape.
What makes that valuable for parents? It means your child is being seen through the same lens college coaches use when making recruiting decisions. Not just points per game or highlight plays—but habits, attitude, competitiveness, coachability, body language, work ethic, and how they impact winning.
Many families spend years wondering where their child truly stands. Gate City Elite Camp provides an honest, realistic evaluation from people who understand what the next level actually requires. That kind of feedback can save time, create clarity, and help families make smarter decisions about development moving forward.
Just as important, athletes get firsthand experience in a college-style structure. The schedule, accountability, film sessions, goal setting, coaching standards, and competitive environment are all designed to mirror what players can expect beyond high school. For some campers, it becomes confirmation that college basketball is within reach. For others, it shows exactly what they need to improve.
Either way, families leave with something incredibly valuable: direction.
Every parent wants to help their child chase their goals. Gate City Elite Camp is more than a week of basketball—it’s an opportunity to gain real feedback, real exposure, and real understanding of what it takes to play at the next level.
